Inspired by 70's maverick filmmaking, Theophilus Jamal is a Chicago-based director whose work is informed by life's "complex simplicity." He is a 2015 DVID Fellow with Kartemquin Films, and a Video Producer for The Driehaus College of Business at DePaul University.
With experience spanning the development of digital cinema, Theophilus first cut his teeth professionally as a Camera Prep Technician at Boston Film Factory in the early 90’s. He continues to avidly explore photographic possibilities by collecting vintage cameras, and experimenting with [and building] his own lenses.
In addition, he has managed for several prestigious film festivals including Sundance, South By Southwest, and Chicago International Film Festival. He currently serves as an Online Content Editor and Curator for Chicago International Movies and Music Film Festival (CIFF).
